Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned 40 years. London was a torch-singing singer well-known for her soft, mellow vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River", a song she first performed on her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her character in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's career in acting lasted 35 years. It began around 1944 with roles in movies. They included roles as the lead female character in numerous westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. However, she continued to be part of the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) where she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
